
How Transponder Key Programming Works and Why It Matters
Every modern vehicle with a transponder system has a small radio-frequency chip embedded in the key's head. When you insert the key and turn the ignition, a receiver in the steering column sends a signal to that chip. If the chip responds with the correct rolling code, the immobilizer releases and the engine starts. If it doesn't — because the chip is blank, damaged, or programmed to a different vehicle — the engine won't fire, even if the key cuts perfectly and physically turns in the ignition. This is one of the most misdiagnosed problems Queens drivers face, often after ordering a key online or getting a basic hardware-store cut.
